SLAM AZTLAN special Winter Break edition

Slam Aztlan is having a special Winter Break edition featuring the new Albuquerque Women's poetry slam champion -- ESME VAANDRAGER!

Esme is a two-time winner of the ABQ WOW Women's Championship slam and was a member of two Albuquerque poetry slam teams -- the 2005 National Championship team as well as the 2006 team. She has also represented as a member of the ABQ Youth Poetry Slam team twice.
She is currently a student at Hampshire College in Massachusetts.

The show is WEDNESDAY, DEC. 29 at 7 pm at Warehouse 508, 508 First St. NW (two blocks south of Lomas, one block east of the Doubletree Hotel). We also have the usual under-21 slam as well as the all-ages open-mic, starting at 7 pm.

In addition to Esme, this month we have the world-famous poetry slam (for poets under the age of 21 only) as well as our all-ages open-mic. We are back to our usual Saturday night slot too.

The Slam is be a standard slam with standard slam rules -- 1 original poem per round; no props music or costumes allowed; 3-5 judges will rate the poem on a scale from 1-10; prizes will be awarded to the top 3 poets of the evening.

Also, don't forget the Word of the Day -- poets will get a point for successfully incorporating the word into their poem or performing a poem that already has the word in it.

Slam Aztlan is produced by the Duke City Youth Poetry Collective, a collection of youth poets aged 13 that epitomizes Warehouse 508's "for youth, by youth" philosophy. The DCYPC (follow on Twitter @youthnoiseis a collaboration between Warehouse 508, the National Hispanic Cultural Center and ABQSlams.

Admission for this event is $3 -- though no one will be turned away.

Warehouse 508 is on First St. two blocks south of Lomas Blvd. and one block east of Second St. Parking is available on First St. after 6 pm and at the old Plaza Bank Building on the corner of Roma and Second St. NW.
