... and more... from one poem to an expanded Antonio Machado post with bio, links, video clip, context (Generation of 98, French Symbolists - but still best to read the poets themselves, the Spanish Civil War, exile), etc. Selected Machado poems translated by A. S. Kline © 2004. Poems from I Never Wanted Fame, translated by Robert Bly, on Issa's Untidy Hut. Even a Wikipedia visit to Soria alto y frio.
Serendipity.. or morphic resonance? Whatever... a timely reminder by any other name. Somehow I missed the notice on my feed reader but 3quarks in cyberspace brought it to my attention: Teatro Paraguas presents Machado y Lorca (info, flyer + more poems) this weekend in Albuquerque at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, Wells Fargo Theater, 1701 4th NW, Albuquerque, November 18th and 19th at 8:00 pm and November 20th at 2:00 pm. Admission free.
Doesn't that eye in #1 remind you of Emerson?
1
The eye you see is not
an eye because you see it;
it is an eye because it sees you.
8
Form your letters slowly and well:
making things well is more important
than making them.
10
Beyond living and dreaming
there is something more important:
waking up.
by Antonio Machado, from Moral Proverbs and Folk Songs, 14 poems in Times Alone anthology, translated by Robert Bly, via 3 quarks daily's Thursday Poem (a starting point to embellish and expand)
