Award winning playwright, actress, and MacArthur "Genius" Grant winner, Anna Deavere Smith will discuss equality and race issues in the academic community in a lecture titled: "Forty Years Wandering in the Academic Desert: Does Anyone See the Promised Land?"

Anna Deavere Smith's career covers mainstream culture as well as academia. Her work in the theater explores American character and our multifaceted national identity. Smith's works include Fires in the Mirror, Twilight: Los Angeles, and the current off-Broadway play Let Me Down Easy. She is also known for her film and TV work, including a role on the NBC series The West Wing.
